Know the details

You should know the following about the interview:
Date
Time
Location
Format
Interviewer(s)
Dress Code
Research
Most hiring managers will ask you what you know about the company. This is a great opportunity to stand out from others! This question often gets asked to ascertain your level of interest in the role, and therefore you should prepare well!
This goes beyond a quick look at the website to see what they do. Take a look at the website, find out what they do and what they are about, but where possible, find out what their values are, look for recent new stories about them and and awards they may have won recently.

We also recommend finding out about the person you are meeting. LinkedIn is a great source of information for this!
Understand the job description
Go through the job description in detail to ensure you understand what is going to be expected of you in the role. Identify any areas which are your main strengths, and also any areas where you may feel you don’t quite hit the spot. By knowing this in advance you will likely be able to address these properly with your answers
Mentally prepare for likely questions
All interviews are different, but many of the questions are the same. We always tell people to prepare for the following:
What do you know about us?
Why are you looking to leave your current role?
What are your main strengths?
What are you development areas? (Also asked as what are your weaknesses)
Plan
This is particularly important should you be somebody who struggles with nerves. Being prepared will you make your interview count!
You should know the following:
What you are going to wear
How you are going to get there (if the interview is in-person)
How long your journey will take
That your equipment is working properly (for remote interviews)
Where you need to go when you arrive
Make your first impression count
Smile! Nothing makes a better first impression than a smile!
Making good eye contact with the person when you meet them (and throughout the interview) will also make a good first impression.
Also, don’t underestimate the importance of being polite and friendly to everybody you meet whilst attending the interview. We know many clients who ask the receptionist for their opinion on somebody to get a feel for the person. Making a good first impression with them can go a long way to success.
Listen
One of the most important things in an interview is to listen! Let the person speak, wait a moment, then answer. By listening you’ll ensure you fully understand their question and can answer it appropriately. It also shows you are interested.
Never, under any circumstances interrupt somebody whilst they are talking, or talk over them!
Ask questions
Remember, the interview is a two-way process. You need to ensure the role and company is right for you, so having a handful of great questions will go a long way to identifying this. We’ve created a list of what we think are excellent questions to ask in an interview, which you can find here.
Avoid asking questions about salaries and benefits here, as it will look like that’s all you’re interested in. Your Recruiter is highly trained to deal with those questions for you too. Great questions about what it’s like to work there, progression opportunities and why they love it there always go down well.
Give your recruiter feedback
As soon as you are out of the interview – call us! We want to know how it went straight away, and for your benefit!
By calling us whilst the information is fresh in your mind means you’ll cover everything, and it will also give us the chance to feedback to the client quickly if there are any questions you wish you’d answered differently. We’ve lost count of the amount of times doing this has meant a candidate was offered the job instead of being rejected from it.
By following the above advice, you’ll increase your chances of securing that job offer! if you want to discuss any of the above in more detail, or want additional advice in how to make your interview count, then get in touch!
